US sees spike in anti-Semitic incidents, says report
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has reported that there has been a record increase in anti-Semitic incidents in the United States since the Israel-Hamas war began in Gaza last October.

This Monday marks one year since Hamas launched an attack on Israel, resulting in approximately 1,100 deaths and the abduction of more than 200 hostages.

Israel's subsequent bombing and ground operations in Gaza have reportedly led to over 40,000 fatalities, igniting pro-Palestinian and anti-war demonstrations worldwide, including significant protests at many US college campuses.

According to the ADL, over the past year, more than 10,000 anti-Semitic incidents were documented in the US—more than three times the amount recorded in the previous year. These incidents occurred between October 7, 2023, and September 24, 2024. Of these cases, at least 1,200 took place on US college campuses, while over 3,000 were associated with “anti-Israel rallies,” as stated by the organization.

“Today, we mourn the victims of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack in Israel, marking one year since the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. From that day on, Jewish Americans haven’t had a single moment of respite,” remarked ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt.

Data from the ADL Center of Extremism reveals that 150 of the incidents involved physical assaults, while 1,840 were classified as vandalism, and 8,015 were instances of verbal or written harassment.

In recent events, two Jewish students experienced physical assaults on separate occasions in the US. In one incident, a Jewish student wearing a Star of David necklace was attacked, and in another case, a student was assaulted after being asked whether they were Jewish.

To date, the Israeli military operations have reportedly resulted in nearly 42,000 Palestinian deaths in Gaza, primarily among women and children, according to the local Health Ministry. Israel's actions have led South Africa to present a case to the International Court of Justice, accusing Israel of committing ‘genocide’ against Palestinians.
