Suddenly, a munition descends, resulting in an explosion that creates a sizable crater. In the ensuing scene, two vehicles are visible, but no bodies can be seen.
“These Houthis gathered for instructions on an attack. Oops, there will be no attack by these Houthis!” the president stated. “They will never sink our ships again!”
Some observers quickly raised concerns on social media, suggesting that those in the footage were civilians attending a tribal gathering, and shared images of similar past events in Yemen.
The Houthis maintain control over a significant portion of Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa. This armed group has been known to target merchant vessels in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait off the Red Sea and has launched ballistic missiles at Israel in support of the Palestinians in Gaza.
The US has intensified its military actions in Yemen recently, with Trump pledging to ensure safer navigation in this crucial shipping corridor. “Your attacks must stop … If they don’t, hell will rain down upon you,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform last month.
Yahya Saree, spokesperson for the Houthi military, reiterated on Friday that the group “will not abandon its religious, moral, and humanitarian duties toward the oppressed Palestinian people, regardless of the repercussions.”
