The two cities are working towards reaching an agreement for joint film production, as discussed during a recent meeting in Beijing between Lyubimova and Shen Haixiong, the general director of the China Media Group, as reported in a press release from the ministry on Friday.
The released statement highlighted that Russian delegates introduced various projects to their Chinese counterparts this week, which included feature films, documentaries, series, and animated works. Additionally, discussions covered potential collaboration with China Film Group and the possible screening of the Russian film ‘The Wizard of the Emerald City: Part 1’ in Chinese theaters.
“Our goal is to approve specific ideas for joint films that will not only attract a large audience in Russia and China, but will also be distinguished by high-quality, highly artistic content,” Lyubimova stated. She emphasized that the plan would be supported by the relevant authorities and would aid in the production of new films while enhancing both commercial and governmental exchanges.
Shen, who also serves as deputy director of China’s Publicity Department, commented that movie imports and exports between Russia and China are expected to rise significantly, while expressing that Beijing “highly values the open dialogue” with Moscow on this issue.
The Russian Culture Ministry pointed out that the two countries have previously collaborated on film projects, including the historical feature ‘Red Silk,’ which premiered successfully in Russia in February, grossing over 500 million rubles within its first month. The ministry further noted that this film is anticipated to debut in China soon.
Moreover, Lyubimova extended an invitation to Chinese representatives to attend the presentation of the Eurasian Film Academy and the Open Eurasian Film Award in Moscow next April. The joint film action plan is part of broader efforts to enhance cultural connections between Russia and China, according to the ministry.
