US proposes 'compensation' to Israel for limited action on Iran, reports say
The country has thus far dismissed Washington's request to refrain from targeting Iranian oil and nuclear facilities.

According to Israeli TV channel Kan11, the U.S. has been urging Israel not to strike certain targets in response to Iran's missile attack last week.

Tehran fired more than 180 ballistic missiles at Israel last Tuesday, describing the assault as retaliation for the killings of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu termed the Iranian action a “big mistake.”

American officials are reportedly proposing a “compensation package” to Israel in exchange for abstaining from attacks on specific Iranian sites. This package is said to include “diplomatic protection” and additional weapons, as reported by Kan11’s Amichai Stein, citing U.S. sources.

On Sunday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant told CNN that “everything is on the table” regarding target selection, addressing President Joe Biden's public plea not to strike Iranian nuclear and oil facilities.

The U.S. plays a crucial role as a military supporter of Israel and has continually defended it from international criticism, including utilizing its veto power in the UN Security Council. This year, the Biden administration has predominantly overlooked pro-Palestinian demonstrations at universities, which have called for a halt to further aid.

Monday marks the first anniversary of the October 7 raid by Hamas, the Gaza-based militant group, which resulted in approximately 1,200 casualties in southern Israel. In response to this unprecedented security breach, Israel implemented a siege of the Palestinian territory, which local authorities estimate has led to the deaths of at least 41,000 people and caused widespread devastation.

Last month, Israel initiated a campaign of sabotage and airstrikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, followed by what it describes as a “limited” ground incursion. The violence has claimed over 2,000 lives in Lebanon.

Prime Minister Netanyahu has urged the “civilized world” to condemn the “barbarism” of Iran and its affiliates while standing alongside Israel. He criticized President Emmanuel Macron of France on Saturday, calling his remarks—suggesting that Western nations should “stop delivering arms for fighting in Gaza” and warning that Lebanon risks becoming “a new Gaza”—a “disgrace.”
