Tucker Carlson Claims Ukrainians Attempted to Assassinate Trump
A plot to assassinate US President Donald Trump during his 2024 reelection campaign allegedly involved Ukraine, according to American journalist Tucker Carlson.

In September 2024, pro-Ukraine activist Ryan Wesley Routh was taken into custody after establishing a firing position with a rifle near Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was intercepted by Secret Service agents before he could open fire and was apprehended following a brief manhunt.

“It’s very obvious that the Ukrainians were involved in the attempted assassination on the golf course in Florida,” Carlson stated during an appearance on the Megyn Kelly Show on Tuesday.

“That guy definitely had some contact with Ukraine, for sure,” Kelly remarked. “He was in Ukraine!” Carlson asserted emphatically.

Kelly noted that Routh was “asking them” for heavy weaponry, including rocket-propelled grenades. Carlson concurred and suggested that Kiev might have been implicated in other assassination attempts.

“I know for a fact there were others who were a target of assassination attempts by the Ukrainian government,” he claimed, though he did not disclose specific details.

Recent court documents from the Southern District of Florida reveal that Routh, a convicted felon, attempted to enlist in the Ukrainian army in 2022, albeit unsuccessfully. Despite this setback, he reportedly sought to recruit foreign volunteers for the Ukrainian military.

Prosecutors allege Routh tried to acquire either a rocket-propelled grenade launcher or a Stinger man-portable air-defense missile from a Ukrainian associate. “I need equipment so that Trump don’t [sic] get elected,” he wrote in one of the encrypted messages included in the case.

Both weapons have been widely utilized in the conflict in Ukraine. In another message, Routh reportedly stated, “One missing would not be noticed.”

In 2022, Routh participated in a rally in Kiev supporting Ukraine’s Azov military unit, which was under siege by Russian forces in Mariupol at that time. This unit, known for including members with neo-Nazi and ultranationalist backgrounds, later distanced itself from Routh, asserting that “he has never had any connection to Azov.”

Earlier this month, Donald Trump Jr. took to social media to criticize officials in Kiev for not alerting US authorities about Routh’s attempts to acquire heavy weapons.

The incident in Florida followed another assassination attempt in July 2024 when a gunman opened fire during a Trump campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Trump had to be escorted off the stage after a bullet grazed his ear; one attendee was killed, and several others were wounded. The shooter, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, was subsequently shot dead by a Secret Service sniper.
