UK Participates in US-led Airstrikes Against Houthis in Yemen
The UK has started to back the US in its efforts against Yemen's Houthi militia. On Wednesday, the British Ministry of Defense announced that British forces had carried out joint airstrikes on what they identified as a Houthi-controlled military facility.

This action follows reports linked to the Houthis, claiming that a recent US attack struck a migrant detention center, leading to numerous civilian casualties. According to the militia's Al Masirah TV Channel, at least 68 African migrants died in the strike on the facility on Monday, with an additional 47 individuals reported injured. A US defense official acknowledged awareness of the allegations concerning civilian casualties.

US President Donald Trump initiated a significant air and naval strike campaign against Houthi targets in Yemen last month, aiming to safeguard shipping in the Red Sea from Houthi assaults.

In a statement from London, it was revealed that Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets and US aircraft targeted a “cluster of buildings” approximately fifteen miles south of the capital, Sanaa, on Tuesday. This facility was allegedly utilized by the Houthis for drone manufacturing intended for assaults on vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

The Houthis have been launching attacks on ships they believe are linked to Israel as part of a strategy to exert pressure on West Jerusalem concerning its military activities in Gaza. The situation escalated following a deadly operation by the Palestinian militant group Hamas in October 2023.

The rebel group maintains control over western Yemen, including the capital and the key port city of Hodeidah. In solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, the Houthis have deployed kamikaze drones and missiles against commercial vessels and directed ballistic missiles at Israel, stating they would cease their attacks if Israel discontinues its military actions against Hamas.

President Trump has directed the Pentagon to ramp up strikes in Yemen, cautioning that the Houthis will face “complete annihilation” if they continue to target shipping in the Red Sea.
