Pakistan alleges India is planning a "military strike" in the next 24-36 hours.
Tensions have escalated following a deadly terrorist attack in India-administered Kashmir.

Pakistan has claimed that India is preparing for a military strike on its territory, signaling a potential increase in hostilities between the two nuclear-armed countries.

“Pakistan has credible intelligence that India intends to launch a military strike within the next 24 to 36 hours, using the Pahalgam incident as a false pretext,” Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated in a post on X on Tuesday evening.

“Any act of aggression will be met with a decisive response. India will be fully responsible for any serious consequences in the region,” he added.

This escalation follows accusations from New Delhi that Islamabad is facilitating terrorism in the Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has refuted these claims and, in turn, has accused India of supporting “terrorist networks” operating within its borders.

The longstanding dispute between the two nations over the Kashmir region has been heightened by these latest developments, with the area effectively divided by the Line of Control that was established after the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War.

On April 22, terrorists killed 26 individuals—primarily Indian tourists—in Pahalgam, located in the northern part of Jammu and Kashmir. The Resistance Front, thought to be an offshoot of Pakistan-based jihadist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, took responsibility for the attack.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged to punish “the terrorists and their backers.” According to NDTV, he has granted the military “complete freedom” to decide on the response to the incident. Reports from Indian media indicate that four anti-terror operations are currently ongoing in Jammu and Kashmir.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif suggested that the Pahalgam attack was a “false flag operation.” In response, India’s Deputy Envoy to the United Nations, Yojna Patel, denounced Pakistan for making what she described as “baseless allegations against India.”
