Play resumed at the Madrid Open on Tuesday following a power outage that caused the postponement of numerous matches on Monday afternoon and evening. This disruption created an uneven landscape in the men's competition, with various contests taking place across both the round of 32 and the last 16.

The action kicked off with a significant upset in the round of 16, as top seed Alexander Zverev from Germany was defeated by Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo, who won 7-5, 6-3. Meanwhile, Jakub Mensik of the Czech Republic made his way into the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik.

In the round of 32, 11th seed Tommy Paul triumphed over Russia's Karen Khachanov with scores of 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. American Frances Tiafoe also advanced to the last 16 with a solid 6-3, 6-3 straight-sets win against France's Alexandre Muller. Canada's Gabriel Diallo staged a comeback after losing the first set, defeating Britain's Cameron Norrie 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 after a two-and-a-half-hour match.

Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas provided a slight surprise by overcoming 10th seed Lorenzo Musetti from Italy, winning 7-5, 7-6. Australia’s Alex de Minaur emerged victorious over Denis Shapovalov of Canada with a score of 6-2, 7-6, while Jack Draper of Britain seized the first set against Matteo Berrettini, who was forced to retire due to injury.

In the women's draw, Iga Swiatek of Poland faced a tough challenge to reach the quarterfinals, requiring three sets to defeat 13th seed Diana Shnaider of Russia with a scoreline of 6-0, 6-7, 6-4. Fifth seed Madison Keys from the USA had a smoother match, securing a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Croatia’s 19th seed Donna Vekic. Additionally, top seed Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus managed to dispatch Peyton Stearns of the USA 6-2, 6-4, exhibiting impressive control over her opponent's serve throughout the match.
