Harris' spouse alleges he was dismissed from the Holocaust Museum by Trump
Douglas Emhoff, spouse of former US Vice President Kamala Harris, has voiced his concerns regarding the Trump administration, accusing it of “politicizing” the Holocaust.

In a post on X this Tuesday, Emhoff revealed that he has been informed about his removal from the US Holocaust Memorial Council, labeling the decision as political and asserting it has turned “one of the worst atrocities in history into a wedge issue.”

The New York Times reports that Emhoff is among several appointees of former President Joe Biden who have been dismissed from the council. Appointments to the council, which oversees the Holocaust museum established by Congress in 1980 and opened to the public in 1993, typically last five years.

On Tuesday, members of the council were reportedly notified via email from the White House Presidential Personnel Office that their positions were “terminated, effective immediately.” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the president “looks forward” to appointing members who will honor Holocaust victims and support the State of Israel.

In tandem with these developments, Trump previously announced in February that he would end the terms of several members of the Kennedy Center board and assume the role of chair for a new board.

The Holocaust Museum did not address the dismissals in its statement released on Tuesday, instead expressing eagerness to continue its mission “in partnership with the Trump administration.”

This comes as Harris, who lost in the presidential race last November, is scheduled to deliver a ‘call to action’ speech on Wednesday at the Emerge 20th anniversary gala in San Francisco. This address is expected to encourage activists to speak out against Trump, according to CNN.

Democrats are reportedly closely monitoring Harris for indications that she may contemplate a run in 2028. Meanwhile, Trump has ruled out the possibility of seeking a third term, despite having previously suggested it could be a consideration. In an interview with The Atlantic, marking his first 100 days in office, he commented that bypassing the constitutional limit in 2028 would be a “hard thing to do.”
