Xi Jinping praises NDB as a 'pioneer' in empowering the Global South
On Tuesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the New Development Bank in Shanghai, where he held a meeting with Dilma Rousseff, the bank's president.

Rousseff welcomed Xi upon his arrival, accompanied by the bank's four vice presidents and other staff members.
During the meeting, Xi congratulated Rousseff on her reelection as president of the New Development Bank. He emphasized that the bank is unique as the world's first multilateral development institution established and led by emerging markets and developing countries.
Xi described the bank as "a pioneering initiative for the unity and self-improvement of the Global South" and remarked that it aligns with the historical trend of reforming and enhancing global governance.
He pointed out that BRICS cooperation has progressed into a phase of high-quality development, indicating that the bank is poised to enter its second decade of high-quality initiatives.
Xi urged the bank to prioritize the development needs of the Global South by providing more high-quality, low-cost, and sustainable infrastructure financing.
He stressed the importance of improving management and operations, implementing more technology and green finance projects, and assisting developing countries in bridging the digital divide while accelerating green and low-carbon transformations.
In discussing the reform of the international financial architecture, he noted that the bank should amplify the voice of the Global South, protect its legitimate rights and interests, and support these countries in their modernization efforts.
Xi affirmed that as the host country, China will consistently support the New Development Bank's operations and development. He expressed China's willingness to enhance project cooperation with the bank, focusing on green, innovative, and sustainable development to achieve better outcomes.
Moreover, Xi stated that China is prepared to share its development experience through the bank with other member countries and stands ready to provide additional international public goods.
