According to President Vladimir Putin, artificial intelligence technologies are transforming daily life and are anticipated to play a crucial role in fulfilling Russia's national objectives.
Putin shared these insights during an international AI conference in Moscow on Wednesday. He emphasized that the new technology is permeating various sectors of the nation's economy and social landscape, bringing about significant changes across industries.
"Artificial intelligence technologies are intended to become the most important resource for achieving national development goals," he remarked, noting the technology's potential to enhance national defense capabilities, foster quality economic growth, improve public administration, and spur innovation.
"In order to successfully solve these problems, Russia must become a world leader not only in the creation, but also in the scale of application and the use of AI in all spheres of our lives without exception," Putin insisted.
He further asserted that Russia's scientific, technological, and ideological sovereignty hinges on developing its own capabilities in the AI domain. According to him, people establish the algorithms and principles governing AI, which reflect specific values, culture, traditions, and national interests. “In order to determine the future, the fate of Russia, we must create such technologies ourselves, independently,” he stated.
Putin affirmed that Russian companies are keeping pace with cutting-edge technological advancements, energetically incorporating these innovations into their operations. They will continue to produce AI-based products and services not solely for Russia but “for the entire world.”
Moreover, Putin mentioned that Russia is committed to collaborating in the field of AI with nations willing to engage, emphasizing the importance of participating equally with other countries in the global technology race.
To further this aim, he suggested organizing a strategic session in Russia focused on the future of AI, to collectively explore the direction in which these powerful technologies should advance.
Additionally, he provided insights into the performance of AI tools that will gather questions for his upcoming Q&A session, describing their processing capabilities as “exceeding all expectations.” Last week, the Kremlin revealed plans to utilize a GigaChat tool, developed by Russian banking and tech giant Sber, to manage inquiries submitted by the public to the president.
The marathon press conference is scheduled for December 19 this year.
