An Israeli airstrike on a school in northern Gaza, which was sheltering displaced families, resulted in at least 10 casualties, while another strike targeted a children's hospital, according to local health authorities, bringing the death toll for Wednesday to 20.

Medics reported that the airstrike on the Yafa School in the Tuffah area of Gaza City ignited tents and classrooms. There has been no response from Israeli officials regarding the school attack.

Hours after the strike, flames were still consuming some furniture as individuals rummaged through charred classrooms and the schoolyard, searching for their possessions.

An eyewitness recounted that the entire school was engulfed in flames and people were crying out. Additionally, medics indicated that at least 10 other individuals died in separate Israeli strikes throughout the enclave.

Following the collapse of a January ceasefire on March 18, more than 1,600 Palestinians have reportedly been killed by Israeli attacks, with hundreds of thousands displaced from their homes.

On Wednesday, the Gaza-based Health Ministry announced that an Israeli missile had also struck the upper building of the Durra Children's Hospital in Gaza City, causing damage to the intensive care unit and destroying the solar panel system supplying the facility with electricity. Fortunately, there were no fatalities in the hospital strike.

Gaza's healthcare system is nearing collapse due to an Israeli blockade restricting all supplies, including fuel and electricity, that has been in place since early March, when military operations resumed. The blockade is said to be a strategy to pressure Hamas to release 59 remaining Israeli hostages taken during the October 2023 attacks which escalated the ongoing war. Hamas has stated it is willing to release the hostages but only as part of an agreement that would conclude the conflict.

The ministry also reported that many Palestinian victims of Israeli military strikes are still trapped under rubble and on roads, with rescue teams unable to access them due to persistent bombardments. The attacks have also affected numerous bulldozers and machinery essential for clearing roads, removing debris, and conducting rescue operations.

On Tuesday, the Israeli military claimed it had targeted 40 "engineering vehicles" involved in "terrorist actions," including the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.

Some of these heavy vehicles were positioned on the road, while others were located inside the garages of municipalities.

Hamas's October 7, 2023, assault on southern Israel led to 1,200 deaths and resulted in 251 hostages taken to Gaza, according to Israeli records.

Since that time, local health authorities have reported that over 51,000 Palestinians have been killed in the ongoing Israeli offensive.
