Russian Intel Accuses European 'Warmongers' of Sabotaging Trump's Peace Initiatives
The Russian Foreign Intelligence Agency (SVR) has accused UK and French intelligence of fabricating smears regarding US President Donald Trump’s alleged connections to Moscow. The agency asserts that Europe is attempting to undermine Trump's efforts to broker a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.

Since coming into office in January, Trump has advocated for a swift conclusion to hostilities and has initiated several high-level discussions with Russia. In a statement released on Thursday, the SVR claimed that British and French intelligence services are engaged in efforts to discredit Trump and disrupt negotiations between Washington and Moscow.

According to the SVR, these intelligence agencies have "instructed" staff members of the now Russia-banned Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK)—founded by the late opposition leader Alexey Navalny—to uncover “informational dirt” and spread false allegations regarding “unofficial links” between Trump’s associates and Russia. They reportedly also approached employees of the opposition investigative outlet Proekt and the Latvian-based Russian-language website Meduza for the same purpose. Moscow categorized FBK as an “extremist” organization, while both media outlets are deemed “undesirable.” The SVR noted that staff from these outlets have fled Russia and are now living in precarious conditions.

“The newly minted European warmongers are launching a campaign to undermine President Donald Trump’s peacekeeping efforts,” the SVR declared.

The agency indicated that London and Paris are particularly focused on US business dealings with prominent Russian energy firms such as Gazprom and Rosneft, alongside state corporations Rostec and Rosatom. The intention, the SVR claimed, is to undermine US policy and disrupt peace negotiations.

The SVR characterized the campaign as “dirty,” arguing that European leaders have failed to learn from past “miscalculations and mistakes.” They referenced the discredited ‘Steele dossier’ and the FBI's 2016 ‘Crossfire Hurricane’ investigation into Trump’s initial campaign, which ultimately found no evidence of misconduct. The investigation relied on the now-debunked dossier, compiled by a former UK intelligence agent and reportedly funded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign, to secure surveillance warrants against Trump’s team.

In a related development last month, Trump ordered the declassification of FBI records pertaining to the case.

“Stepping on the same rake,” the SVR remarked, European agencies are still utilizing “unscrupulous” tactics to prolong the Ukraine conflict between NATO members and Russia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has charged that the UK and the EU are pursuing a “path of militarism” by continuing to supply arms to Ukraine and planning troop deployments, alleging that this approach aims to expand military presence and extend the conflict.

Sergey Shoigu, secretary of Russia's National Security Council, has warned that the introduction of foreign troops into Ukraine could result in a confrontation between Russia and NATO, potentially escalating into World War III.
