Numerous fatalities and more than 700 injuries reported following large explosion in Iran
A massive explosion at the Port of Shahid Rajaee, Iran's largest commercial port, has resulted in the deaths of at least five people and left over 700 injured, according to local media citing officials. The incident occurred on Saturday in...

Reports indicate that the explosion may have been preceded by a smaller blast that ignited a fire at the port. Online videos depict a towering column of smoke and dust over the facility.
It appears that the explosion set off freight containers stored at the port, as footage shows a significant wall of thick black smoke rising above the container stockpile.
Additionally, the blast caused severe damage to the port’s structures, leading to the partial collapse of multiple buildings, as evidenced by various videos capturing the destruction in the vicinity of the initial explosion site in Bandar Abbas.
Details about the cause of the explosion remain unclear, with conflicting reports emerging from local officials. Some sources suggest the initial blast originated from an administrative building, while others indicate that a gas tanker might have exploded at the port. There are also claims that the epicenter was in the freight container area.
A local crisis management official stated, “The source of this incident was the explosion of several containers stored in the Shahid Rajaee Port wharf area. We are currently evacuating and transferring the injured to medical centers.”
