Daniella Gilboa, Karina Ariev, Liri Albag, and Naama Levy are anticipated to be freed on Saturday, with the exchange involving the release of 200 Palestinian prisoners, including 120 militants who are serving life sentences for terrorist offenses.
These four female soldiers were captured on October 7, 2023, during Hamas' attack on the Nahal Oz base at the Gaza border. This assault was part of a larger surprise offensive by Palestinian militants that prompted Israel's invasion of Gaza.
The Hostages Families Forum, an Israeli activist group, expressed support for the imminent release of the soldiers, stating, “an entire nation has fought for them and anxiously awaits their longed-for return to their families’ embrace.”
The group also emphasized, “We have both a sacred duty and moral right to bring all our brothers and sisters home.”
The ceasefire, which commenced on January 15, outlines a gradual exchange of prisoners, with the first phase allowing for the release of 33 Israeli hostages. The initial swap took place last Sunday, when three Israelis were freed in return for 90 Palestinians.
On Friday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office confirmed to Israeli media that it had received the list of hostages slated for release but did not disclose their names.
During the October 7 attack, Hamas and other allied Palestinian factions killed roughly 1,200 Israelis and abducted over 200 individuals. Currently, around 90 hostages are believed to remain in Gaza.
The ongoing conflict has resulted in the deaths of more than 46,000 Palestinians in Gaza since its escalation.
