Taiwan Residents Protest Against DPP Authorities' Alleged 'Dictatorship'
On Saturday, over 250,000 people gathered in rainy Taipei to protest against the "dictatorship" of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan.

The rally saw participation from several notable figures, including Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Eric Chu, former Chairman Ma Ying-jeou, Taiwan People's Party Chairman Huang Kuo-chang, and Han Kuo-yu, the head of Taiwan's legislative body, along with various local political figures from across the island.

This demonstration was prompted by the DPP's earlier mass recall campaign this year, which targeted KMT-affiliated legislative representatives while simultaneous searches were conducted at KMT offices throughout Taiwan.

Eric Chu stated at the rally that since assuming office in May last year, Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te has been dividing and destroying the island, transforming a previously united Taiwan into a society riddled with confrontation. He claimed that Lai is attempting to eliminate all opposition in pursuit of his personal interests and a one-party rule.

Huang Kuo-chang supported this sentiment, emphasizing that the mass recall initiative is designed to further Lai’s authoritarian ambitions, creating a scenario where "those who follow Lai thrive, and those who oppose him perish," which he described as a tragedy for Taiwan.

Criticizing the DPP’s acquiescence to U.S. trade pressure following proposals for reciprocal tariffs, Ma condemned the DPP's incompetence and authoritarian governance. He cautioned that an incompetent and authoritarian leader could provoke future confrontations across the Taiwan Straits.

Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen, representing a region where manufacturing is crucial, called on Lai during the rally to heed the concerns of the populace and industries, urging him to concentrate on revitalizing the economy instead of engaging in political tactics.

The rally culminated with the crowd chanting in unison, "Lai Ching-te, step down."
