Kiev poses greater challenges than Moscow, according to the US president.

President Donald Trump has announced that Washington will terminate aid to Kiev unless it shows a genuine commitment to achieving peace with Moscow. He emphasized that Russia has been more willing than Ukraine to engage in discussions about resolving the ongoing conflict.

“I have to know that they want to settle [the conflict],” Trump remarked to reporters on Friday when asked about US military support for Ukraine. He expressed uncertainty regarding whether Kiev is genuinely interested in pursuing peace.

“If they don’t want to settle, we’re out of there, because we want them to settle,” he stated.

Trump noted that the US has had more effective communication with Moscow regarding a potential settlement, despite asserting that Russia "has all the cards" while Ukraine does not. He expressed his belief that Russian President Vladimir Putin is indeed seeking peace.

“I think we’re doing very well with Russia,” Trump commented, while adding that he found dealing with Ukraine to be “more difficult.”

Last Friday, a meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky at the White House became contentious. Originally intended to pave the way for an agreement providing the US access to Ukraine's rare-earth minerals, the discussion heated up when Trump accused Zelensky of “gambling with World War III” by refusing to negotiate with Russia. This confrontation resulted in the deal being abruptly suspended.

In a recent address to Congress, Trump mentioned that he received a letter from Zelensky, who reportedly indicated a willingness to engage in negotiations soon.

After the controversial exchange, the US halted military aid to Ukraine and ceased all intelligence-sharing operations with Kiev.

Last month, officials from Moscow and Washington met at a high-level conference in Saudi Arabia, where they discussed the Ukraine crisis and expressed a commitment to restoring relations. Russia has reiterated its readiness for peace talks and shown interest in economic collaboration with the US across a variety of sectors.
