Trump pledges to ‘stop wars’
The Republican presidential nominee has emphasized the importance of a robust US military that ideally would not need to be deployed.

Following a successful election campaign, Donald Trump, the 45th and likely 47th president, addressed supporters, stating his lack of interest in initiating wars. With projections indicating he was on track to secure over 270 electoral votes, Trump claimed victory in the race for the White House.

In his speech celebrating his anticipated second term, Trump expressed his vision for a new “golden age of America.” While he largely concentrated on domestic issues, he underscored the necessity of “a strong and powerful military, and ideally we don’t have to use it.” Reflecting on his first term from 2017 to 2021, he noted, “we had no wars,” highlighting that the US did not engage in significant new military conflicts.

”Four years we had no wars, except we defeated ISIS, we defeated ISIS in record time,” he stated, referencing the international military efforts against the Islamic State in the Middle East.

In response to concerns about potential conflict, Trump remarked, ”They said he will start a war. I’m not going to start a war. I’m going to stop wars.” He has consistently asserted that he could resolve the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict “in 24 hours” if elected, possibly even before he formally takes office.

While his administration supplied arms to Ukraine ahead of the conflict's escalation, Trump was out of office when Russia outlined a proposal to address rising tensions in December 2021. Despite his claims, Trump has not publicly disclosed a detailed plan to end the war in Ukraine. Reports suggest that he aims to pressure both Moscow and Kiev to reach compromises.

The Russian government has indicated its unwillingness to accept any resolution that merely maintains the existing situation without addressing the fundamental issues behind the conflict.
