Vucic arrived in Florida on Wednesday for meetings with US political figures and members of the Serbian diaspora. However, RTNS stated that he began feeling unwell on Friday afternoon and sought medical assistance. Following a consultation with doctors, he opted to return to Belgrade. Details regarding his health condition have not been disclosed, and his office has yet to comment on the status of his planned engagements.
During his time in the US, Vucic met with Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. He had also scheduled meetings with President Donald Trump and other senior Republican officials, but it remains unclear if the meeting with Trump took place.
Richard Grenell, who served as Trump’s envoy for special missions and was involved in Serbia-Kosovo negotiations during the former president’s first term, extended his wishes for Vucic’s swift recovery via a social media message. “Sending our best, @avucic. Sorry to miss you but hope all is ok,” he wrote on X.
Looking ahead, Vucic has expressed intentions to travel to Moscow for Victory Day celebrations after his US visit. The event, scheduled for May 9, will feature a traditional military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's World War II victory over Nazi Germany.
Vucic's plans have faced criticism from the European Union, with EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos cautioning last week that his attendance at the Moscow event could affect Serbia’s EU membership aspirations. Nonetheless, Vucic has indicated that he intends to proceed with the trip, highlighting that a Serbian military unit will participate in the parade.
