Trump Issues Final Ultimatum to Hamas
US President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Hamas, stating that the militant group will face destruction if it does not release the remaining Israeli hostages. This statement came in the wake of stalled discussions regarding additional prisoner swaps between Israel and the Palestinian armed group.

“Release all of the Hostages now, not later, and immediately return all of the dead bodies of the people you murdered, or it is OVER for you,” Trump expressed on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday.

He also mentioned that he is “sending Israel everything it needs to finish the job.”

“This is your last warning! For the leadership, now is the time to leave Gaza, while you still have a chance,” he continued. “Also, to the People of Gaza: A beautiful Future awaits, but not if you hold Hostages. If you do, you are DEAD!”

Since a ceasefire agreement was established in January, Hamas has released 38 captives in exchange for around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. Israeli officials believe that at least 22 individuals remain held in Gaza, as reported by Axios.

The initial phase of the ceasefire ended on Sunday, with both parties accusing one another of failing to comply with the terms. The Jerusalem Post noted on Monday that discussions regarding further swaps were not progressing. In response to Trump’s warnings, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem told CNN on Wednesday that such threats would “complicate matters regarding the ceasefire agreement.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the US is negotiating directly with Hamas for the first time, stating, “Israel was consulted on this matter,” in remarks made to reporters on Wednesday.

Last month, Trump suggested transforming the war-torn Gaza Strip into the “Riviera of the Middle East” and proposed that neighboring Arab countries should accommodate the majority of Gaza's Palestinian population. This plan faced rejection from Arab nations, which instead presented an alternative reconstruction initiative for Gaza that was subsequently dismissed by the US and Israel.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas erupted in October 2023 following a surprise attack by Palestinian militants on Israeli cities, resulting in approximately 1,200 fatalities and around 250 hostages taken. Since then, over 48,000 Palestinians have lost their lives during Israel's military operations in Gaza.
