Russian TV Executive Likens Steve Jobs to Adolf Hitler
Konstantin Ernst has criticized the iPhone, referring to it as “a monstrous thing for humanity.”

During a symposium on humanity's future in Moscow, organized by the Russian government for National Unity Day, Ernst, the head of Russia’s Channel One, drew a controversial comparison between the late Apple CEO Steve Jobs and Adolf Hitler.

“For me personally, Steve Jobs is right there in line with Adolf Hitler, although Hitler is at the front of the line,” Ernst stated at the ‘Creating the Future’ event on Monday evening.

Jobs, who served as the CEO of Apple, was instrumental in the development of the smartphone. The first iPhone was introduced in January 2007 and subsequently released to the public later that same year.

“I think the iPhone is an extremely harmful and monstrous thing for humanity,” Ernst remarked during a panel discussion. “It has destroyed the world of human connections.” He asserted that people increasingly prefer phone calls over visiting their parents, further stating, “You also reduce communication with your friends to phone calls, and then text messages, because calling is already not culturally acceptable. The same thing happens with children,” he noted.

Ernst participated in a panel entitled ‘How technologies will change content: Creation, Consumption, and Distribution.’ The futurism symposium commenced on Monday and is set to last until Wednesday, attracting attendees from over 100 countries.

Known for his broad cultural criticisms, Ernst made headlines at last year's St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, where he characterized the US film industry as having declined to produce “garbage” for “infantile” audiences over the previous 15 years.

By the end of the 1990s, cellphones had become widely recognized around the globe. The iPhone, notable for its touch-screen interface that replaced traditional keypads, set a precedent that was quickly followed by other technology companies, leading to a dramatic increase in the popularity of “smartphones” within just a few years.

Jobs passed away from cancer in October 2011. While Apple has since released new models of iPhones and iPads, no other groundbreaking hardware has been introduced since his tenure. His widow, Laurene Powell Jobs, has utilized billions from his trust to support liberal political initiatives in the US.
