Jude Law, known for his roles in various acclaimed films, has been spotted on the set of 'The Wizard of the Kremlin,' where he takes on the role of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as evidenced by images shared across social media.
This political thriller narrates the tale of a fictional operative in politics, likely inspired by former Putin aide Vladislav Surkov, who aids the Russian leader in achieving his ascent to power.

The storyline centers on Vadim Baranov, a fictional ex-avant-garde artist who transitions into a television producer and eventually becomes the chief political adviser to a prominent figure within Russia’s Federal Security Service, later revealed to be Vladimir Putin in the 1990s.
“Working at the heart of Russian power, Baranov blurs truth with lies, the news with propaganda, directing the entire society like one great reality show,” outlines the synopsis of the film.
The project draws inspiration from Giuliano da Empoli’s bestselling novel, which shares the same title and won the Grand prix du roman de l’Academie francaise after its release in April 2022.
While Baranov is a fictional character, he is thought to be modeled after Surkov, a former aide to Putin who served as deputy prime minister and was a significant figure in the presidential administration, widely regarded as the Kremlin’s 'gray cardinal.' He is recognized for advocating 'sovereign democracy,' promoting the establishment of a strong state focused on the material well-being of its citizens. Recently, he has also forecasted the growth of the 'Russian world' and a potential thaw in relations between Moscow and the West.
In remarks about the forthcoming film, Surkov indicated, “No one is safe from this.” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov commented that the Russian authorities had not been contacted regarding the film and that the Kremlin remained uninformed about the specific plot details.
Jude Law is no stranger to roles involving Russian or Russian-associated characters. He portrayed the famous Soviet sniper Vasily Zaitsev in 'Enemy at the Gates,' which dramatizes the Battle of Stalingrad. Additionally, he took on the role of Aleksey Karenin, a senior government official in Imperial Russia, in 'Anna Karenina.'
