Prime Minister of EU Country Cautions About Potential New ‘Maidan’
Slovakia's Robert Fico has alleged that his political opponents are orchestrating a coup similar to that in Ukraine, with assistance from foreign entities. Read Full Article at RT.com

During a press conference in Bratislava alongside Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Fico referenced a report from the Slovak Information Service intelligence agency to support his claims.
“I cannot disclose the content of the report, but I can say in all seriousness that the opposition is preparing a ‘Maidan’. It is gearing up to thwart the government from exercising its powers and it will do this in cooperation with foreign actors,” he stated.
Fico suggested that his adversaries have not recognized the significant changes in the global political landscape, likely alluding to Donald Trump’s potential return to the presidency, which could alter U.S. foreign policy.
He also expressed concerns that the pro-Western opposition is seeking to instigate early elections “based on some type of event, for instance, if security forces took action against protest activities violating the law.” Fico advocates for a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict and aims to restore relations with Russia.
Earlier that day, Fico introduced the SIS report during an extraordinary parliamentary session convened by opposition members who sought to conduct a no-confidence vote against his government. After Fico asserted that the report was confidential and should be discussed in a closed setting, opposition members withdrew their no-confidence motion in protest, indicating they would pursue another vote shortly.
Opposition lawmakers dismissed the report as “nonsense” and “a clear conspiracy theory,” asserting that it contained no confidential information and was instead filled with readily available details.
“We are not the ones preparing a ‘Maidan’, but I have serious concerns that this government is. It would not be difficult for someone to stage a provocation at an otherwise peaceful demonstration, providing an excuse to claim they’re protecting the state… while beginning to detain individuals based on some list,” remarked Frantisek Miklosko, a lawmaker from the Christian Democratic Movement.
In a subsequent Facebook post, Fico cautioned his opponents against staging another no-confidence vote unless they possessed a parliamentary majority. The ruling coalition currently holds 76 seats in the legislature, just two more than the opposition.
“If you believe that you submit another motion to oust the government tomorrow and expect me to ask the government and the governing coalition to accommodate your whims, then you are dead wrong,” he emphasized.
