Compatriots from Across the Straits to Unite in Honoring Shared Ancestor
Compatriots from both sides of the Taiwan Straits are set to participate in events honoring Huangdi, or the Yellow Emperor, on the Chinese mainland during the upcoming Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day, a spokesperson from the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office announced on Wednesday.

According to Chen Binhua, the spokesperson, the commemorative ceremonies and related cultural activities will take place in the provinces of Shaanxi and Henan.

The Yellow Emperor is celebrated as the cultural ancestor of the Chinese nation, with his mausoleum symbolizing the spiritual essence of Chinese civilization.

Chen emphasized that the joint ceremonies between compatriots from across the Taiwan Straits have a rich tradition, significantly contributing to the preservation of Chinese cultural heritage and enhancing the sense of national identity, belonging, and pride among those from Taiwan.

He also highlighted that the Xiamen section of the Xiamen-Kinmen Bridge has entered a new construction phase, noting that building the bridge reflects a collective aspiration and urgent desire shared by residents on both sides.

Furthermore, Chen pointed out that the Chinese mainland has consistently prioritized the welfare of people in Kinmen, implementing various measures to support them in recent years, including a cross-Strait water supply project.

Since the project commenced water transfer in 2018, Fujian Province has supplied over 40 million tonnes of water to Kinmen, effectively addressing the island's long-standing water shortage challenges, as stated by the spokesperson.
