Military drills conducted by the Chinese People's Liberation Army Eastern Theater Command around Taiwan Island are being portrayed as a firm response to the Lai Ching-te administration's overt provocation towards Taiwan secession, as well as a vital measure for protecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity, according to a spokesperson from the Chinese mainland on Tuesday.

Zhu Fenglian, who serves as the spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, pointed out that Lai Ching-te continues to promote the notion of Taiwan secession, characterizes the Chinese mainland as a "hostile foreign force," and provocatively stirs anti-China sentiments on the island. This behavior has hindered cross-Straits communication and collaboration, and has intensified tensions in the Taiwan Straits.

Zhu articulated that Lai’s actions clearly label him as a "destroyer of cross-Straits peace" and a "creator of a Taiwan Straits crisis." She made it clear that the Chinese mainland will not stand for such actions and will decisively counter and harshly penalize these provocations.

She issued a stark warning, stating that Taiwan secession equates to war. "China's determination to resolve the Taiwan question and achieve national reunification is as firm as a rock, and no one or any force will be allowed to separate Taiwan from China," Zhu asserted.

Additionally, she stressed that China’s countermeasures are aimed at Taiwan secessionists and their initiatives, not at the broader population of Taiwan. Zhu expressed her hope that the people of Taiwan would choose the correct path, firmly oppose the secessionist momentum and external interference, and collaborate with the Chinese mainland for national reunification and the revitalization of the Chinese nation.

On Tuesday morning, the PLA Eastern Theater Command commenced joint exercises surrounding Taiwan Island, coordinating its ground, naval, air, and rocket forces to approach Taiwan Island from various angles, as noted by Senior Colonel Shi Yi, the spokesperson for the theater command.
