After leading 10-6 overnight, Zhao faced a determined comeback from Lei, who had previously eliminated defending champion Kyren Wilson. Lei won three consecutive frames after Zhao had reached 12-7, closing in on victory. However, Zhao regained his composure and started the 23rd frame with a solid break of 62 points, prompting Lei to concede. Next up for Zhao is qualifier Chris Wakelin in the quarterfinals.
In other matches, world No. 1 Judd Trump celebrated his 100th century break of the season while building a 10-6 lead against fellow Englishman Shaun Murphy. Trump overcame a slow start in the second-round match to finish the first session ahead 5-3, though he lamented missing a challenging yellow ball while on 98 in the final frame of that session, leaving him temporarily stuck on 98 centuries.
When the evening session kicked off, it began in a tense atmosphere filled with misses, fouls, and snookers. From that point on, the match turned into a showcase of impressive breaks, which Trump managed to edge out. He nearly reached another century in the 12th frame, ending his break at 97, but he secured the 14th frame with a break of 106. Shortly after, he earned a rare mid-frame standing ovation for potting a black, which led to a break of 105 and eventually culminated at 132 as he cleared the table.
This marks the second time Trump has reached a century of centuries, joining Neil Robertson, who holds the record with 103 during the 2013-14 season.
Meanwhile, Si Jiahui from China is currently ahead 9-7 against Ben Woollaston in their second-round match.
Seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan from England and Belgium’s Luca Brecel are both on the brink of reaching the quarterfinals, with O'Sullivan winning his afternoon session 6-2 and holding a commanding lead of 12-4 over Pang Junxu of China, as they prepare to conclude their match on Monday evening. Brecel surged ahead with an 11-1 lead against China's Ding Junhui, but Ding managed a comeback, and the match resumes with Brecel leading 12-4.
