Poll Reveals Majority of Americans Disapprove of Musk's Government Role
A recent poll by ABC News, the Washington Post, and Ipsos reveals that a significant portion of Americans disapprove of Elon Musk’s involvement with the US government. Nearly 60% of those surveyed expressed opposition to the billionaire's role. Musk has indicated plans to reduce his engagement as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

According to ABC News, 57% of respondents disapprove of Musk's performance within the Trump administration, while 35% approve. The discontent appears largely linked to the administration's efforts to reduce the size of the federal government, which has been a major focus for DOGE.

In recent months, the White House, under the guidance of DOGE, has enacted significant federal spending cuts. The department, established by Trump shortly after he took office in January, has reportedly laid off around 280,000 federal employees in an attempt to achieve a balanced federal budget.

Earlier this month, mass protests erupted across the country as thousands of Americans rallied against what they called an "illegal power grab" and a "coup" orchestrated by Trump and Musk. Protesters argued that the policies implemented by the president and his ally have thrust the nation into a severe crisis.

Last week, Musk announced his intentions to reduce his involvement with DOGE and shift his focus back to his business interests, expressing that the “major work” of establishing the department had been completed. He did make it clear, however, that he intends to remain engaged with government matters, dedicating “a day or two per week to government matters.”

Musk’s tenure as a special government employee is projected to conclude by late May, after which he will likely concentrate on his private enterprises, including Tesla, SpaceX, and the social media platform X, among others.
