Manchester City Defeats Nottingham Forest 2-0 to Advance to FA Cup Final
Manchester City's toughest season under Pep Guardiola could still conclude with a trophy.

On the day they were officially dethroned as Premier League champions, City booked a spot in the FA Cup final for the third consecutive year by defeating Nottingham Forest 2-0 at Wembley Stadium, offering them a chance to salvage something from a challenging campaign.

City struck early during Sunday's match, with Rico Lewis scoring just two minutes in and defender Josko Gvardiol adding a second goal with a header from a corner in the 51st minute. Despite Forest hitting the woodwork three times thereafter, they were unable to secure a consolation goal in what would have marked their first FA Cup semifinal appearance since 1991.

This victory provides Pep Guardiola's team an opportunity to redeem their season, which saw their hopes of clinching a fifth consecutive Premier League title fade early on, compounded further by their inability to progress past the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League.

"Unfortunately, the season has not been as we wanted, but we are still in another FA Cup final," City midfielder Mateo Kovacic, who assisted the opening goal, stated. "So it's good that we want to finish it in a strong way."

Liverpool secured the Premier League title while City played, and even an FA Cup win would merely serve as a consolation for a club that has been a dominant force in English football during Guardiola’s tenure. City is set to face Crystal Palace in the final on May 17.

Guardiola himself made it clear that winning the cup would not make this a successful season for the club.

"The season has not been good," the Spaniard stated assertively. "We are a thousand million points behind Liverpool... But of course the damage will be."

Currently, City finds themselves 21 points behind Liverpool and still faces the task of ensuring a Champions League spot for the next season. Forest is among the teams vying to finish above City, leaving little room for reflection on their defeat.

"Tomorrow we will wake up and see that we have a lot to fight for," said Forest's manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
