FM spokesperson asserts "Taiwan question" tolerates no foreign meddling
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized on Wednesday that the Taiwan issue is an internal matter for China and does not permit outside interference.

Guo's comments followed remarks made by the U.S., EU, Japan, and others regarding the People's Liberation Army's joint exercises around Taiwan Island on Tuesday.

He characterized the accusations from a few countries and organizations as misrepresentations of the truth and as interference in China's domestic affairs. "China deplores and opposes this."

According to Guo, it is the activities of "Taiwan independence" separatists and the external forces that support them that disrupt peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits.

He urged that if certain nations and organizations genuinely desire peace and stability in the region, they should adhere to the one-China principle, honor their political commitments to China, respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and oppose "Taiwan independence" in all forms.

Guo asserted that efforts to promote "Taiwan independence" equate to attempts to separate China, while support for such independence can be viewed as interference in China's domestic matters and disrupts stability in the Taiwan Straits.

He described China's joint exercises as a response to the provocations from the Lai Ching-te authorities seeking "Taiwan independence" and as a warning to separatist forces undermining peace in the region. He insisted that these exercises are a responsible stance for defending national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. "No external force is in any position to point fingers at this."

Guo stated, "As long as provocations for 'Taiwan independence' last, our punishment against 'Taiwan independence' will continue." He firmly concluded, "We will never ever allow anyone or any force to separate Taiwan from China in any form. We will take all measures necessary to firmly safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity."
