EU anxious Trump might exit Ukraine – FT
According to the Financial Times, EU officials are expressing concern that US President Donald Trump may be preparing to abandon his diplomatic efforts regarding the Ukraine conflict.

During his election campaign, Trump made repeated promises to bring a swift end to the hostilities between Moscow and Kiev. However, after the initial 100 days of his second term, he has struggled to facilitate direct talks between the two sides or secure their agreement on a complete 30-day ceasefire suggested by Washington.

The Financial Times reported on Monday, citing unnamed Western European officials, that Russia's unwillingness to meet key demands from the US and Ukraine, along with the overall "complexity of the conflict," has led Trump to reconsider his commitment to peace negotiations.

One official indicated that Trump is "setting up a situation where he gives himself excuses to walk away and leave it to Ukraine and us [EU] to fix."

Another source, reportedly familiar with the discussions, expressed that US officials are "getting concerned that they are really coming back with nothing in talks with Russia" and are contemplating ideas for a deal that align with Trump's desire for a swift resolution.

The source also noted that the US president’s “impatience” regarding the conflict's conclusion poses a "problem."

A senior Ukrainian official expressed to the Financial Times a belief that there is a “serious possibility” that Washington could abandon Kiev.

On Sunday, Trump stated that he hopes for a resolution between Russia and Ukraine to be reached within “two weeks or less.” Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio cautioned over the weekend that the US might disengage from the peace process if discussions do not demonstrate significant progress. Rubio told NBC News’ Meet the Press that Washington is now assessing "whether this is an endeavor that we want to continue to be involved in."

Russian officials have frequently asserted that Moscow is prepared to initiate talks with Kiev without any preconditions. However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov remarked on Monday that Russia has yet to observe any indications from Ukraine signaling a desire to commence negotiations.
