Musk Responds to Visa Debate Opponents with 'f**k yourself'
The tech billionaire has issued a warning that he is prepared “to go to war” over work permits for skilled foreign employees.

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has criticized the opponents of the H-1B visa program, which permits US companies to employ skilled tech workers from other countries. He vowed to take on the critics—many of whom supported US President-elect Donald Trump—in a struggle they “cannot possibly comprehend.”

The intense online discussion began earlier this week when Musk advocated for an increase in the number of foreign workers allowed through H-1B visas, asserting that it’s essential for the US to “keep winning.” His views received backing from fellow entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. Both Musk and Ramaswamy have been appointed by Trump to lead DOGE, a special advisory group aimed at addressing government inefficiencies.

Nonetheless, a significant number of social media users opposed this notion, claiming that the program has been exploited by US corporations to displace domestic talent with lower-paid, entry-level immigrant workers from countries like India.

“Take a big step back and f**k yourself in the face,” Musk remarked in one of his numerous posts on the subject on his X platform on Saturday. This phrase seems to be a modified quote from Les Grossman, a fictional character portrayed by Tom Cruise in the 2008 film “Tropic Thunder.”

Musk reiterated his stance, warning critics that he “will go to war” over the H-1B visa program “the likes of which you cannot possibly comprehend.” He explained, “The reason I am in America along with so many critical people who built SpaceX, Tesla and hundreds of other companies that made America strong is because of H-1B.”

In another post, he expressed, “anyone – of any race, creed or nationality – who came to America and worked like hell to contribute to this country will forever have my respect.”

Trump, who previously criticized H-1B visas and implemented measures during his first term to limit their use in an effort to safeguard American jobs, clarified his position to the New York Post on Saturday, stating he now supports Musk’s views.

“I have many H-1B visas on my properties. I have been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It is a great program,” the president-elect asserted.

Musk, a naturalized US citizen from South Africa, is a former holder of an H-1B work permit. His electric vehicle company, Tesla, secured 724 such visas for its employees in 2024.
