Massive cyberattack hits X from 'Ukraine area,' according to Musk
The tech billionaire has suggested that a large coordinated group or a state actor was involved.

Tech tycoon Elon Musk announced that his social media platform X experienced a “massive cyberattack,” leading to over 60,000 outage reports reported by Downdetector on Monday.

In a post on his personal account, he wrote that “we get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources,” expressing his belief that “either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved.”

During an interview with Fox News later that day, Musk elaborated, saying, “We’re not sure exactly what happened, but there was a massive cyberattack to bring down the X system with IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area.”

He also concurred with an X user who suggested that “they want to silence you and this platform.”

Downdetector, a website that tracks online service outages, reported that there were at least two waves of outage reports related to X on Monday, totaling over 60,000 users flagging issues.

Some users received error messages from Cloudflare, a content delivery network and cybersecurity service provider, which stated, “Web server is returning an unknown error,” when attempting to access the site.

A previous major outage affecting X occurred last August.

Earlier, Musk accused ActBlue, a prominent Democratic fundraising platform backed by figures such as billionaire George Soros, of orchestrating a coordinated attack on his car company, Tesla. He claimed, “An investigation has found 5 ActBlue-funded groups responsible for Tesla ‘protests’: Troublemakers, Disruption Project, Rise & Resist, Indivisible Project and Democratic Socialists of America.”

This accusation followed a series of protests at electric car dealerships across over 50 locations in the US in recent weeks. While many demonstrators called for Musk to “go,” some dealerships reported property damage.

The latest incident occurred overnight in Seattle, where multiple Cybertrucks were set ablaze. A similar attack had previously taken place in Loveland, Colorado.

Last month, a business connected to Tesla was targeted by an arsonist who spray-painted “Nazi cars” on the vehicles and threw Molotov cocktails at them. Police later arrested a transgender suspect, Lucy Grace Nelson, who was booked on a $100,000 cash bond and released the following day, prompting frustration from local law enforcement.

Despite his criticism of Democrats over the years, Musk has made what some consider a swing to the right by endorsing Donald Trump for president after the attempted assassination on the then-candidate last July.

Since then, the tech billionaire has emerged as one of Trump’s closest advisors, leading a new Department of Government Efficiency, aimed at addressing waste and inadequate staffing in government agencies.
