German duo admits to murdering Ukrainian migrants to take their infant
A German couple has confessed to the murders of two Ukrainian women and the abduction of one of the victim's baby. The case was presented in court, revealing that the pair had posed as volunteers offering translation services to lure the victims.

The defendants, a 43-year-old man named ‘Marco’ and his 45-year-old wife ‘Ina’, admitted in Mannheim's court on Tuesday to killing a 27-year-old Ukrainian woman and her 51-year-old mother last March.

Prosecutors previously noted that the victims were staying in accommodations for Ukrainian asylum seekers in Wiesloch when they encountered the couple, who had extended their services through a Telegram group, according to Deutsche Welle.

After the younger woman gave birth to her baby in February, the couple purportedly devised a scheme to murder her and abduct the child.

In early March, the couple took both Ukrainian women to a restaurant where they allegedly placed sedatives in their drinks. Prosecutors described how Marco then transported the older woman to a lake where he assaulted her to death, subsequently taking the younger woman to a dam where she met a similar fate before he set her remains on fire.

Authorities discovered the younger woman's body hours later, while divers located the older woman’s remains several weeks afterward. The baby was recovered unharmed, and the couple was arrested.

During the court proceedings, the man expressed regret for their actions, stating through his lawyers that he and his wife, parents of four, were desperate to have another child. “I really wanted to have a daughter together, that was my wife’s most fervent wish,” he said.

Ina echoed her husband's sentiments, adding, “I committed these crimes with my husband. I made a big mistake that weighs heavily on me. Little Mia is without a mother and my children no longer have a mother either,” referencing the abducted infant.

The couple faces charges of joint murder and child abduction. The Mannheim District Court has planned nine days of hearings that will extend until the end of February. Currently, the baby is living with her aunt in Ukraine.
