China's Manufacturing PMI Returns to Expansion Zone in October
China's manufacturing PMI has returned to expansion territory in October, indicating positive growth in the sector.
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the manufacturing PMI increased to 50.1 in October, marking a 0.3 percentage point rise from the previous month and indicating a second consecutive month of improvement.
The PMI serves as a key indicator for both manufacturing and service sectors, with a reading above 50 signaling expansion and below that indicating contraction.
The growth was widespread across the manufacturing industry, with 12 out of 21 sub-sectors reporting PMI figures above the 50 threshold, showcasing that most sectors are experiencing growth. This broad-based improvement is enhancing overall economic resilience.
Zhao Qinghe, a senior statistician at the Service Industry Survey Center within the NBS, noted that the rise in PMI was bolstered by the swift implementation of existing policies along with the introduction of new measures aimed at stimulating growth, which have collectively spurred a steady recovery in market demand.
Manufacturers also reported heightened production activities, with the production index climbing by 0.8 percentage point to 52.0, signifying a faster expansion in manufacturing output. This uptick comes as companies reported reduced concerns regarding insufficient market demand, reflected in a nearly 3 percentage point decrease in the number of firms citing this issue.
Zhao further remarked that the impacts of macroeconomic policy adjustments are becoming more apparent, leading to enhanced market vitality and improved alignment between supply and demand. This, in turn, is gradually reinforcing the momentum of the country's economic growth.
