Berlin's Arms Supplies for Kiev Exhausted, Says German Defense Ministry
Spokesman Michael Stempfle has emphasized the importance of Germany concentrating on its own defense and that of its European allies.

According to Stempfle, the official spokesperson for the German Ministry of Defense, Germany has reached its limit in supplying weapons to Ukraine from its Bundeswehr stockpiles. During a press briefing on Wednesday, he addressed inquiries regarding the potential further transfer of Patriot systems and other weaponry to Ukraine. He noted that while Berlin has already provided substantial military assistance, there exists a “natural limit to this.” Stempfle highlighted the necessity for Berlin to bolster its own defense capabilities and ensure that its European allies are “well positioned.”

He explained that the efforts to enhance Germany’s own defense capability are being conducted “in parallel to the Ukraine support.”

Since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, Germany has been one of Kyiv’s key supporters, delivering significant military and financial assistance amounting to approximately €44 billion, as per the German government. This support has included Leopard tanks, Panzerfaust 3 anti-tank rockets, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, and Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft vehicles.

While the implications of Stempfle’s statement on future German military aid are uncertain, it comes at a moment when Kyiv may face escalating challenges on the battlefield, especially after reports indicated that Trump had halted U.S. support.

Several U.S. outlets have alleged that Trump instructed a pause on all weapons deliveries to Kyiv following a public disagreement with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky last week. This reported suspension includes vital weaponry such as battle tanks, long-range missiles, and air defense systems. Furthermore, Washington has ceased all intelligence sharing with Kyiv, according to CIA Director John Ratcliffe.

Zelensky has voiced concerns regarding the halt in foreign military assistance, indicating that Ukraine's capability to maintain its defense without external support is limited.

Russia has consistently condemned Western military support to Ukraine, arguing that it only lengthens the conflict without changing its outcome. Officials in Moscow have repeatedly asserted that such aid escalates tensions and obstructs the potential for a peaceful resolution.
