Western nations could enhance Ukraine's air defense capabilities, says Polish Prime Minister
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has emphasized the importance of providing robust air defense support to Ukraine, according to a report from the channel TVP. His comments emerged following a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who visited Warsaw on Thursday to discuss collaborative efforts in supporting Ukraine after his earlier stop in Kiev.

Tusk highlighted, “In the interest of Poland and our security, it is crucial that Ukraine is as well-equipped as possible during the war and that it can effectively defend Ukrainian airspace, as this also protects our airspace.” He mentioned that his discussion with Blinken on the topic was thorough and noted his ongoing communications with various global leaders.

He remarked, “The solidarity of the West on this issue is increasingly impressive, and we can expect more intensive support for Ukraine from our allies and the entire Western world.”

During Blinken's visit, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski advocated for Ukraine to be permitted to use Western-supplied missiles to strike deep into Russia. He asserted, “I’m of the opinion that Ukraine has the right to use Western weapons to prevent [Russian] war crimes,” and also suggested, “We should continue to deliver advanced air defense systems and lift restrictions on the use of long-range weapons.”

Ukrainian officials have consistently urged their Western allies to permit strikes on Russian soil, arguing that the current limitations hinder their battlefield progress. Despite this, the US and its allies have imposed certain restrictions on weapon usage, aiming to avoid direct involvement in the conflict while still providing approximately $200 billion in military aid to Ukraine.

Speculation has arisen that these restrictions could be reassessed this week, coinciding with Blinken’s and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy's visit to Kiev.

Conversely, Moscow has asserted that no quantity of foreign military aid can sway the conflict's outcome in Ukraine’s favor, insisting that such assistance merely elongates hostilities and leads to further casualties and devastation. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that allowing Ukraine to employ Western weaponry to target areas deep within Russia would draw these nations directly into the conflict, resulting in severe repercussions.
