Trump says he voted for DeSantis in the Florida governor’s race
Trump had just days ago mocked DeSantis at a rally in Pennsylvania, calling him “Ron DeSanctimonious.”
Former President Donald Trump told reporters Tuesday that he voted for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, his potential 2024 rival, in the state’s race for governor.
“Did you vote for Gov. DeSantis?” a reporter asked Trump as he left a polling place in Palm Beach, Fla., with former first lady Melania Trump by his side.
“Yes, I did,” Trump responded.
Trump’s confirmation of his vote for the incumbent governor comes as speculation has ramped up in recent weeks that they will both run for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024. Trump on Monday teased he’ll make an announcement about running at an event at Mar-a-Lago on Nov. 15, a week after the midterm elections.
Trump had just days ago mocked DeSantis at a rally in Pennsylvania, calling him “Ron DeSanctimonious.” The former president then countered his jab at DeSantis a day later when he encouraged supporters at a Miami rally to vote for DeSantis.
“No matter who you vote for, you have to vote,” Trump told reporters gathered outside the polling place on Tuesday.
DeSantis is running against Democrat Charlie Crist in the Florida gubernatorial contest. Most polls show DeSantis leading Crist.
