Ding Triumphs Over Surety with a 10-7 Score, Advances to Last 16 in World Snooker Championship
China's Ding Junhui advanced to the last 16 at Sheffield's Crucible Theater on Tuesday, overcoming qualifier Zak Surety with a score of 10-7. Despite the defeat, Surety achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first player to score four...

The 38-year-old Ding started strong, winning the first four frames and taking a 6-3 lead after the initial session. However, Surety fought back upon their return, claiming the 10th frame with a century break of 109.
Having lost his last four opening matches at the Crucible, Ding then began to regain control by securing the 11th frame. Meanwhile, Surety continued to impress, crafting two additional centuries with breaks of 136 and 110, narrowing the deficit to 7-6 and completing his historic achievement of four centuries in his first appearance at the Crucible.
Ding responded with an 86 in frame 14, but Surety kept the match competitive by winning the 15th to make it 8-7. Ding then finished decisively, scoring a century of his own at 116, followed by a break of 75 to seal the 10-7 victory. Afterwards, Ding commended Surety's impressive play.
"I think Surety performed very well during the match and kept attacking me. He tried to find opportunities to fight back. I did not make any mistakes in those frames which he won. I focused on scoring more points. I would've lost my form if I sat for a long time. I tried my best to control the rhythm of the match," said Ding.
In other notable matches, China's Si Jiahui triumphed over last year's semifinalist David Gilbert, taking a 6-3 lead into their second session. Si opened the match with an impressive break of 98, while Gilbert responded with a stunning 147 in the 11th frame. Si then dominated the next frame, scoring 55 to extend his lead to 8-4.
Frame 13 came down to a crucial last red, and Si executed an excellent long pot to move within one frame of victory. Following the interval, Gilbert found his rhythm, registering breaks of 104 and 102 to narrow the score to 9-6.
The 16th frame proved to be scrappy, ultimately resolved when Si laid down a challenging snooker with three reds left, leading to Gilbert's failure to recover. The match concluded at 10-6, setting Si up for a clash against Mark Selby or Ben Woollaston in the last 16.
