Matheus Nunes scored in the dying moments of injury time, securing a vital 2-1 Premier League win for Manchester City against Aston Villa on Tuesday as they continue their pursuit of a Champions League spot for next season. The match seemed...

The match seemed destined to end in a draw after Marcus Rashford converted a penalty to equalize Bernardo Silva's first-half goal. However, Nunes delivered a dramatic finish, netting off a cross from Jeremy Doku in the 94th minute. This victory propelled City to third place in the standings with 61 points, although they have played one more match than the three teams directly below them. Meanwhile, Villa remains seventh with 57 points, having endured 15 consecutive losses at the Etihad Stadium.
City opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Omar Marmoush made a dash past Villa right back Matty Cash to set up Silva. Although Villa's goalkeeper, Emi Martinez, managed to get a touch on the ball, it still found its way into the net.
Rashford, who nearly scored just 18 seconds into the match with a shot that hit the post, leveled the score from the penalty spot in the 18th minute, after VAR confirmed that Ruben Dias had clipped Jacob Ramsey from behind. With composure, Rashford sent keeper Stefan Ortega the wrong way before finding the back of the net.
City dominated the match with 14 shots compared to Villa's seven, ultimately claiming a well-deserved victory. Doku's drive down the left flank set the stage for Nunes to score at the back post.
Nunes' goal, his first in the league for City, elicited a euphoric response from the home crowd. Pep Guardiola celebrated vigorously, raising both fists with joy, while Villa's manager Unai Emery appeared dejected on the sidelines.
