As regular season champions, Guangsha will go on to face the defending champions, the Liaoning Flying Leopards, in the semifinals. Notably, Guangsha has not triumphed in any of their last six playoff encounters against Liaoning.
In this matchup, Guangsha's star scorer Barry Brown Jr. faced difficulties on the court, missing 11 of his 15 field goal attempts, including all six within the three-point range. Despite his shooting struggles, he played a pivotal role with nine assists, ranking second on the team behind Sun Minghui's 10. The Most Valuable Player of the regular season achieved a double-double, contributing 19 points and 10 rebounds.
On the Qingdao side, Yang Hansen came off the bench and made a significant impact, scoring 16 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and blocking one shot in 36 minutes of play. Quinndary Weatherspoon was the standout performer for Qingdao offensively, finishing with 24 points and eight assists. His contributions helped keep the game competitive until the closing moments.
After trailing 29-28 at the end of the first quarter, Guangsha outpaced Qingdao in the second quarter, scoring 25 to 19 and taking a 53-48 lead into halftime. The team built a maximum lead of 13 points, 77-64, highlighted by Joshua Carlton’s jumper in transition. Jordan Mickey added two free throws at the end of the third quarter, ensuring the visitors were down by only nine at 79-70 going into the final frame.
Qingdao mounted a comeback effort in the fourth quarter led by Weatherspoon and Yang. They narrowed the gap to just four points at 92-88 following an offensive rebound by Yang that led to a layup from Weatherspoon. However, Qingdao struggled with defensive rebounds, a critical factor in their eventual defeat.
The first game between Guangsha and Liaoning is scheduled for Saturday in Hangzhou, while the other matchup featuring the Shanxi Loongs and Beijing Ducks will kick off Game 1 on Sunday in Taiyuan, north China's Shanxi Province.
