US President-elect Donald Trump shared a festive message on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday, where he extended holiday wishes while taking jabs at several entities.
In his posts, Trump began with “the wonderful soldiers of China, who are lovingly, but illegally, operating the Panama Canal.” The canal, which the US managed for nearly a century, was returned to Panama in 1999. Since then, the Panamanian government has hired Chinese firms to operate it.
He also directed greetings toward “Governor Justin Trudeau of Canada, whose citizens’ taxes are far too high,” suggesting that taxes would be reduced by 60% if Canada were to join the US as the 51st state.
“Likewise, to the people of Greenland, which is needed by the United States for national security purposes and who want the US to be there, and we will!” Trump stated, referencing his recent revival of interest in US control over Greenland after his attempted purchase of the island was declined in 2019.
“Merry Christmas to the Radical Left Lunatics,” he continued, accusing the Democrats of attempting to undermine the US judicial system and elections while targeting him and other Americans.
He added, “They know that their only chance of survival is getting pardons from a man who has absolutely no idea what he is doing,” referring to outgoing President Joe Biden. Trump also mentioned Biden's decision to commute the death sentences of 37 federal inmates to life imprisonment, asserting that these individuals should “go to hell” instead.
Concluding his message, Trump declared, “We had the greatest election in the history of our country, a bright light is now shining over the USA, and in 26 days we will Make America Great Again.” He finished with a festive “Merry Christmas!”
As he prepares for his inauguration on January 20, Trump has alluded to a range of “day one” initiatives, which include executive orders related to immigration and energy, as well as seeking a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
