Slovak Prime Minister says West aims to ‘bring Russians to their knees’
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has stated that the West's current approach to Moscow will ultimately be unsuccessful, claiming that it fuels the ongoing conflict in Ukraine in order to weaken Russia.

In a recent interview with Slovak broadcaster STVR, Fico voiced his concerns about the EU’s escalating involvement in the hostilities between Moscow and Kiev. He emphasized that resolving the conflict through military means is futile.

“There is a military conflict in a neighboring country where Slavs are killing each other, and Europe is significantly supporting this killing, which I just don’t understand,” Fico noted, emphasizing that the continuation of fighting is largely due to robust support from the West.

Fico further elaborated, “The sooner it ends, the better it will be,” contending that efforts to exploit the conflict to bring about Moscow's defeat would ultimately fail.

“Everyone thinks that through Ukraine we will bring the Russians to their knees, but this Russophobia does not work. It turns out that this problem cannot be solved militarily,” he remarked.

Fico, who has consistently criticized Western military support for Kiev, has vowed to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO. He suggested that such an outcome could lead to a potential World War III.

Following his party's victory in last year’s parliamentary elections, Fico's Smer-SD has halted weapon deliveries to Ukraine and has called for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict. He also expressed a desire to reestablish trade and political relations with Moscow once hostilities cease, arguing that “the EU needs Russia, and Russia needs the EU.”

In response to the situation, Moscow has condemned the Western assistance to Kiev, asserting that no degree of foreign aid will deter its military actions in Ukraine.
