Sanders Offers Campaign Advice to Harris
Progressive Democrats, including Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, are urging US presidential candidate Kamala Harris to revise her campaign's closing message. They believe it should prioritize working-class people rather than focusing primarily on her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, according to a report by the Associated Press.

Progressive leaders have expressed concerns that Harris' current messaging is heavily centered around Trump and the alleged threat he poses to democracy, which they see as an effort to appeal to moderate Republicans. Critics argue that this approach overlooks the economic hardships faced by the American working class. Additionally, there has been frustration that Harris' campaign has not included prominent progressives like Sanders or New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in more significant roles.

“The truth of the matter is that there are a hell of a lot more working-class people who could vote for Kamala Harris than there are conservative Republicans,” Sanders stated in an interview with AP on Thursday.

Sanders claimed to be actively supporting Harris’ campaign efforts and mentioned participating in around two dozen campaign events in rural areas this month, albeit without Harris joining him.

“She has to start talking more to the needs of working-class people,” Sanders expressed. “I wish this had taken place two months ago. It is what it is.”

The report also highlighted that while Trump's supporters have labeled the former California senator as a “radical-left liberal,” Harris has been hesitant to align herself with progressives like Sanders. Instead, she has chosen to campaign alongside Liz Cheney, a well-known neoconservative whom Trump has disparaged as a “dumb War Hawk” eager for military action.

Joseph Geevarghese, the executive director of the progressive group Our Revolution, indicated that up to 10% of progressives might choose not to support Harris due to their dissatisfaction, with some potentially abstaining from voting or even backing Trump.

Harris is set to deliver a significant speech just outside the White House, the site where Trump spoke shortly before the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. In her final appeal to voters, the Democratic nominee plans to assert that she embodies the future direction of the country and will protect their everyday freedoms, according to sources familiar with her strategy.

Reports suggest that Harris will persist in her criticisms of Trump, labeling him as “increasingly unhinged and unstable” and underscoring the dangers of his desire for “unchecked power.”

In contrast, Trump is slated to present his formal closing message on Sunday at Madison Square Garden in New York City, focusing on the concerns of average Americans regarding the country's trajectory. His campaign emphasizes issues such as the economy, inflation, immigration, crime, and foreign policy.
