Trump asserts he could have averted Hamas assault on Israel
During a recent appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump conveyed his belief that if he had been in office, he could have prevented the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.

Reflecting on his presidency from 2017 to 2021, Trump stated his strategy was to "do things that… do not necessarily make me so popular... just do what is right." He cited his approach to Iran as a key example of this philosophy.

In 2018, Trump withdrew the United States from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, an agreement that required Iran to curtail its military nuclear program in exchange for the easing of international sanctions. Following this decision, he instituted a series of stringent restrictions on Tehran.

"Iran was broke. I told China if you buy [oil from Tehran] you cannot do business in the US under any circumstances. I was going... to go cold turkey with China. Some people think that would have been a good idea anyway,” Trump remarked.

He claimed to have informed “many” other nations that purchasing even “one barrel of oil” from Iran would lead to exclusion from the U.S. market. As a result, he asserted, “Iran was broke. They had no money for Hezbollah; they had no money for Hamas.”

According to Trump, "We would have never had the attack on Israel at all” had he remained president, referencing the events of October 7, 2023.

The Hamas incursion resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 individuals and the captivity of 250 others. In retaliation, Israel launched a military operation in Gaza, which has reportedly left at least 42,847 people dead and 100,544 others injured, as per the enclave’s health ministry.

On the morning of October 26, the Israeli military announced it had conducted strikes on Iran, targeting about 20 military sites in response to a missile attack on Israel earlier in the month. Iran acknowledged the strikes occurred but asserted they resulted in “limited damage.”

Earlier in October, Iran had fired nearly 200 ballistic missiles at Israel following the deaths of key Hamas and Hezbollah leaders, along with an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps general.
