At Airshow China 2024, Russia unveiled its new fifth-generation stealth fighter jet. The SU-57E, designed for export, made its world debut flight in Zhuhai, China.
The aircraft was piloted by the esteemed Russian test pilot Sergey Bogdan, who demonstrated impressive aerobatics as part of the flight program.
Developed by Sukhoi, the multirole SU-57 is engineered to avoid radar detection while effectively engaging both aerial and ground targets, including air defense systems. The aircraft integrates advanced features such as stealth technology, supermaneuverability, supercruise capabilities, integrated avionics, and a substantial payload capacity. The first SU-57s were delivered to the Russian Aerospace Forces in 2020.
Vadim Badekha, CEO of the United Aircraft Corporation, commented on the aircraft's capabilities, stating, “The Su-57 aircraft is one of the best fifth-generation aircraft in the world, and in a number of characteristics it has no equal.” He also noted that it “has attracted legitimate interest from our long-term partners” for quite some time and mentioned that “a certain queue has formed” for the aircraft.
Rostec, the Russian state-owned defense corporation, labeled the SU-57E as the highlight of Russia's exhibition in China, emphasizing its proficiency in employing high-precision guided munitions and its low radar visibility.
In 2022, Rostec indicated plans to increase the production of SU-57 jet fighters, particularly in light of the ongoing Ukraine conflict, mentioning that new SU-57s would be provided to the Russian Air Force.
Organized by Rosoboronexport, the Russian state agency responsible for international arms trade, Russia's collective display at the event included not only the SU-57 jets but also the latest air-launched munitions, a diverse array of helicopters, and air defense systems. Highlights from the showcase included the new generation X-69 multifunctional stealth air-to-ground high-precision cruise missile, the Grom-E1 air-launched guided missile, the K08BE corrected aerial bomb, and the UPAB-1500B-E guided gliding aerial bomb.
The 15th Airshow China is scheduled to run from November 12-17, featuring around 150 foreign exhibitors from 47 countries presenting a variety of military and civilian aircraft, space technology, weapons, air defense systems, and electronic warfare innovations.
