Fashion mogul falls to his death
Isak Andic, the 71-year-old founder and owner of the Spanish fashion retailer Mango, has tragically passed away following a hiking accident near Barcelona. On Saturday, while hiking with family, Andic slipped from a cliff in the Montserrat caves, falling over 150 meters.

Emergency services were contacted by his family around 12:30 pm local time, as reported by Spanish newspaper El Pais. Both a helicopter and an ambulance were dispatched, but medics confirmed Andic's death upon their arrival.

Toni Ruiz, the CEO of Mango, shared his condolences in a statement: “It is with deep regret that we announce the unexpected death of Isak Andic, our non-executive chairman and founder of Mango.”

Originally from Türkiye, Andic relocated to Catalonia during the 1960s and established Mango in 1984. Under his guidance, the brand expanded to nearly 2,800 stores globally, achieving a turnover of €3.1 billion in 2023. Forbes estimated his wealth at $4.5 billion, making him one of the richest individuals in the region and among the wealthiest in Spain.

Catalan regional government head Salvador Illa acknowledged Andic’s impact on the fashion industry, stating, “he leaves an indelible mark on the Catalan and global fashion sector.”

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez extended his sympathies to Andic’s family via a post on X, writing, “All my love and recognition for his great work and business vision, which has turned this Spanish firm into a world leader in fashion.”

Mango, much like its competitor Inditex, known for Zara, is adept at quickly responding to fashion trends while keeping prices affordable. The company primarily outsources production to lower-cost regions in Türkiye and Asia, operating under a single brand without maintaining any factories of its own.
