NBC News: Trump's Inner Circle Against New Call with Putin
US President Donald Trump’s advisers are reportedly recommending that he delay any communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin until Moscow commits to a full ceasefire in the ongoing Ukraine conflict, according to NBC News, which cited two unnamed officials.

The US leader previously indicated to the media outlet that he plans to speak with Putin again, possibly as soon as this week, following their earlier conversation on March 18. Trump, who is seeking to facilitate a truce between Moscow and Kiev after over three years of conflict, mentioned on Tuesday that both Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky are “ready to make a deal” due to his mediation efforts.

Putin has expressed his support for a complete halt to hostilities but has raised concerns regarding the details of the arrangement. He proposed that a pause could become feasible if the US guarantees thorough monitoring along the frontline and if Kiev halts the mobilization of reinforcements.

In their previous call, the Russian president agreed to a moratorium on attacks targeting energy infrastructure, a stance that Zelensky has also publicly supported. However, since that discussion, the Russian Defense Ministry has frequently reported Ukrainian strikes that violate the partial ceasefire, including attacks on internationally owned infrastructure within Russian territory. Moscow insists that it remains committed to fulfilling its part of the agreement.

Additionally, this week, Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev, who advises President Putin on international economic cooperation, traveled to the US to meet with White House officials. After these discussions, he stated that strides have been made toward resolving the Ukraine issue, but he also indicated that third parties are attempting to obstruct the normalization of US-Russian relations that Trump initiated in February during his first call with Putin after taking office.

PMG has noted that there are expectations in the UK and Germany for a third call between Putin and Trump in the coming days, following Dmitriev’s recent visit.
