Musk's Father States that the Tesla Magnate Holds Admiration for Putin
Errol Musk has expressed that his family holds a certain admiration for Russian President Vladimir Putin. In an interview with the BBC, the father of billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk characterized the Russian leader as a “strong leader” and...

Alongside his role as CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk is also involved with the US Department of Government Efficiency, which oversees initiatives aimed at optimizing government operations under President Donald Trump.
Errol Musk remarked that his family is “impressed” by Putin, stating, “It would be foolish not to admire him because he is always calm.” He indicated that he listens to the speeches of Putin and believes they contain “logical things,” clarifying that his opinions stem from personal observation as opposed to political alignment.
In discussing Putin's leadership style, he said, “If you evaluate him as a man to a man, I’m not talking about relations between countries and the like… he is a strong leader for me.”
When the interviewer asserted that Putin “had started the war in Ukraine,” Errol Musk challenged this viewpoint, suggesting that the true origins of the conflict would become clearer over time.
He also defended his son's response to the war. “What he did when the war began, he immediately gave Starlink to Ukraine,” he noted, adding, “But this war doesn’t end, it goes on and on.”
Elon Musk has underscored the vital role that the Starlink network plays in Ukraine’s defense, noting that “the entire front line would collapse” without it. Still, he has voiced concerns that ongoing Western support for Ukraine might escalate the situation into a wider global conflict, potentially leading to World War III. He consistently advocates for a diplomatic resolution in place of continued military engagement.
Errol Musk mentioned his son’s recent characterization of the conflict as “the biggest corruption machine in the history of mankind.” Elon Musk's views have sparked criticism from Ukrainian officials and their supporters, especially regarding his suggestions that peace talks may necessitate Ukraine ceding territory, a position seen as conciliatory toward Russia.
More recently, he faced backlash after asserting that Volodymyr Zelensky is “despised by the Ukrainian people,” reflecting sentiments previously expressed by Donald Trump.
