Kremlin Issues Alert on False Information During Peace Negotiations
Amid ongoing peace efforts regarding the conflict in Ukraine, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has emphasized that only official sources should be trusted.

Peskov expressed concerns about the proliferation of rumors and misinformation in Western media concerning Russia's position on a possible peace settlement with Ukraine. He urged journalists and the public to depend on verified official information.

These statements come as the United States continues its push for a peace agreement between Moscow and Kiev. AFP reported that Ukrainian officials are set to propose an air and naval truce during discussions with US representatives in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. Additionally, Bloomberg reported, citing unnamed sources in Moscow, that Russia might be open to discussing a temporary truce if there were progress towards a final settlement.

However, Peskov refuted this claim on Tuesday, stating that Western media is filled with “incorrect information” and “rumors that do not correspond to reality.” He cautioned journalists against relying on unnamed sources and insisted they should focus on “official sources of information and on specific statements by specific people.”

Numerous media outlets, including Reuters and Bloomberg, have reported that US President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, is expected to visit Moscow this week to meet with President Vladimir Putin. Bloomberg noted that this visit is scheduled to coincide with US-Ukraine talks in Riyadh.

Peskov, however, refrained from confirming Witkoff’s trip, asserting that the public would be “informed in due course.”

Last month, the White House took steps to mediate a ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict. Since taking office in January, Trump has sought to strengthen ties with Moscow and indicated on Sunday that “big meetings” are planned with both Russia and Ukraine. This strategy marks a shift from the more confrontational approach toward the Kremlin adopted by Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden.
