In a conversation with Iranian media on Tuesday, Rostami, who has previously headed the Development and Equipment Commission of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, acknowledged the lawmakers’ calls for a revision of military doctrine. However, he indicated that they might lack knowledge about certain “highly classified and top-secret information.”
Rostami further claimed that Iran has “weapons that are far superior to nuclear weapons,” suggesting that this advanced military technology has been utilized previously, citing the incident involving oil tankers in the United Arab Emirates in 2019. He stated, “When Trump wanted to reduce our oil exports, there were a number of tactical operations,” adding, “I will not say who carried them out, but five tankers blew up in the highly guarded port of Fujairah. They did not even know where the attack came from. They even filed a complaint with the UN. The UAE accused us, but could not provide evidence. These are some of the examples I can mention.”
Recently, a cohort of Iranian parliamentarians urged the Supreme National Security Council to reassess the nation's defense strategies and lift the prohibition on the development of nuclear arms, responding to ongoing threats from Israel regarding potential attacks on Iran’s nuclear and oil facilities.
Tensions between Iran and Israel have intensified following the Israeli Defense Forces’ elimination of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders, as well as an IRGC general last month. In response to these actions, Iran executed a significant missile strike on October 1, claiming to have targeted only military sites.
In the aftermath of this strike, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant threatened a “deadly, pinpoint accurate, and surprising” counterstrike, while Israeli officials have been pushing for severe retaliatory measures against Iranian energy infrastructure, including nuclear sites.
Tehran has cautioned Israel to refrain from escalating the situation further, asserting that it is fully prepared to defend itself and retaliate against any aggressions. An Iranian source recently informed RTN that should West Jerusalem choose to strike Iran’s oil infrastructure, Iran would respond by targeting Israel’s oil refineries. Furthermore, attacks on power plants and nuclear sites would lead to retaliatory actions against similar facilities in Israel, the source noted.
